Chuback Vein Center

Circulation problems are an issue everyone faces as we age. As our veins get older, they can lose the ability to transport blood through our bodies properly. And when that happens, varicose veins are often the result. Fortunately, you can fight back. One way to do that is with ambulatory phlebectomy, a varicose vein treatment offered in Bergen County at Chuback Vein Center. Our Paramus vein doctor Dr. John A. Chuback strives to deliver the best varicose vein treatment Paramus has to offer.

What Is Varicose Vein Treatment?

Varicose veins tend to form when blood pools in the veins rather than flowing readily through them. This causes the vein to swell, deform, and become visible through the skin, often resulting in discomfort, irritation, and pain. At Chuback Vein Center, our board-certified vein specialists usually begin by looking for ways to solve these problems without surgery.

But sometimes, more aggressive treatment is required. There are several options for treating varicose veins, but one of the oldest and most trusted treatments is called "ambulatory microphlebectomy." The ambulatory microphlebectomy procedure is ideal for treating smaller veins by removing them and letting the body reroute blood flow to nearby, healthier veins. At Chuback Vein Center, we're passionate about restoring your health, energy, and wellbeing through a wide range of varicose vein treatments, including ambulatory microphlebectomy. The board-certified staff at our Bergen County vein clinic has the expertise and experience you need to eliminate varicose veins and feel comfortable again.

Benefits of Varicose Vein Treatment

Bergen County Vein Treatments

In a phlebectomy treatment, small incisions are made in the skin, and the malfunctioning veins are removed. Downtime is minimal because only local anesthetic is used — the procedure is named "ambulatory" because Paramus varicose veint treatment patients are able to walk and resume normal activities on the same day of their treatment.

Only tiny incisions are made so microphlebectomy will not leave behind any large scars usually associated with other invasive procedures. This also means the healing process is shorter and relatively painless. During your consultation at Chuback Vein Center, your vascular specialist will cover all the options for treating your varicose veins and help you find the treatment that's right for you.

Am I a Candidate for Varicose Vein Treatment?

If you have varicose veins in any of the following areas, you may be a good candidate for ambulatory microphlebectomy:

  • Feet
  • Ankles
  • Knee pit
  • Arms

Patients who benefit most from varicose vein treatment generally have good health, meaning they don't have any serious medical conditions like cancer, heart disease, or diabetes. Further, they have committed to following their doctors' recommendations for a healthy diet and regular exercise, and they also have realistic expectations for their results.

We will look closely at your medical history when you visit Chuback Vein Center to confirm varicose vein treatment is a good option for you. We'll also listen closely to your concerns and answer any questions you may have. Our goal is to provide you with the highest level of care and foster a doctor-patient relationship built on trust.

Your Varicose Vein Treatment Procedure

Before your procedure, your doctor will fully explain all the details and provide you with instructions for before and after your varicose vein treatment. It's important to follow these instructions closely to ensure the best chance for optimal results.

Some of those instructions may include pausing or adjusting any medications or supplements that may affect your blood function, including ibuprofen and aspirin. These medicines can increase the risk of uncontrolled bleeding and make recovery more difficult. The procedure itself will begin with the doctor marking the veins to be treated while you're standing. You'll then be positioned comfortably on the operating table, and a local anesthetic will be applied. The doctor will make tiny incisions in the skin over the targeted veins and use a very small hook-like medical instrument to remove the afflicted veins. Once all of the targeted veins have been removed, the incisions are closed, cleaned, and bandaged. Often, the doctor will apply a compression sock or stocking to promote normal blood flow.

Recovery from Varicose Vein Treatment

At Chuback Vein Center, we perform all ambulatory microphlebectomy procedures as outpatient treatments at our accredited vein facility in Paramus, New Jersey. That means you can expect to be home and walking around immediately following your varicose vein treatment.

It is still recommended that you avoid more strenuous physical activity (i.e., running, heavy lifting) for at least two weeks, but some light exercise like walking is important to encourage healing and prevent blood clots. Your doctor may also recommend that you continue the use of compression socks or stockings for up to two weeks following your procedure. You can expect some minor swelling and tenderness around the incisions, but over-the-counter pain medication is usually sufficient to control the discomfort. Serious side effects are rare but can include bruising and tingling sensations following treatment.

Varicose Vein Treatment Results

expect to notice results within a few weeks

You can expect to notice results within a few weeks of your varicose vein treatment and after any swelling or discoloration has subsided.

The treated veins will be gone, as will your associated symptoms. Your body will divert any blood that went through the removed veins to other veins, so your circulation will improve following treatment. You may notice an increase in energy and stamina in the weeks following your procedure as your body's blood flow improves.
