What Can You Expect When Visiting Our Lab?

one-stop shop for diagnostic testing and treatment

Your vascular exam is performed in a comfortable, relaxed setting by one of our board-certified vascular technologists. Our lab is conveniently located within the same space as Chuback Vein Center; it’s your one-stop shop for diagnostic testing and treatment. The ultrasound itself is actually quite simple.

While lying in an easy position, water-based jelly-like “ultrasound gel” is applied onto the area of interest and a handheld “transducer” is used to scan either the legs, arms, abdomen, or neck. Some people also refer to this as a “Doppler” or “sonogram” study. The “transducer” is like a magic wand converting sound waves that cannot be heard by the human ear into black and white images of the blood vessels in our bodies. Ultrasound exams are completely safe and do not involve any exposure to radiation.

Additional Reading

Depending on the study, you may be in our office from 30 to 90 minutes. Exceptional test accuracy helps the physicians pinpoint your individual treatment plan. Last but not least, you can expect inspiration for healthy lifestyle modifications including smoking cessation and weight loss. We encourage patients to follow up with their primary medical doctors for the management of other co-morbid conditions, such as hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and diabetes. Together, we are active participants in stamping out vascular disease.

What Type of Equipment Is Used For The Vascular Lab Tests?

state-of-the-art equipment

Only the latest, state-of-the-art equipment that offers exceptional image quality yielding the best results needed to provide quality patient care.

Are the Vascular Lab's Staff Members Credentialed?

credentialed by ARDMS

Yes, most definitely! Our technologists are credentialed by ARDMS, as Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT); and CCI as a Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) and/or Registered Phlebology Sonographer (RPhS).

All exams are read and interpreted by Dr. Chuback, the laboratory’s Medical Director and Reading Physician, who is also credentialed as a Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation (RPVI), with ARDMS.

Is The Vascular Lab Accredited And What Does That Mean?

Again, yes! Our lab is accredited by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC). This means an in-depth review of the lab’s daily operations and technical components has been conducted and we have met all requirements. To learn more about venous treatment and the importance of receiving medical care from an accredited facility, visit the patient information section of the IAC website .

What Types of Studies Are Performed at Chuback Vascular Imaging?

Chuback Vein Center

We examine the arteries in the legs, arms, abdomen, and neck to make sure there are no “blockages” or “aneurysms” preventing the blood from circulating properly, which can ultimately starve your organs and muscles of much needed oxygen. Studies that you might be familiar with or that your primary medical doctor may order include:

  • Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA)
  • Abdominal and Peripheral Stent & Bypass Graft Surveillance
  • Ankle/Brachial Index (ABI)
  • Carotid Artery Stenosis
  • Lower Extremity Arterial of Native Vessels
  • Pre/Postprandial Mesenteric
  • Renal Artery Stenosis
  • Subclavian Steal Syndrome

We study the veins in your legs, arms, abdomen, and neck to check for the presence of a “blood clot” which can lead to more serious health issues if left untreated. Studies that you might be familiar with or that your primary medical doctor may order include:

  • Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)
  • Superficial Vein Thrombosis (SVT)

We examine the legs to determine if you have a condition called “reflux”. This means your blood is flowing in the wrong direction and is the leading cause of varicose veins, pain, and swelling. Studies that you might be familiar with or your primary medical doctor may order include:

  • Valvular Incompetence/Insufficiency
  • Venous Insufficiency
  • Venous Reflux

Can I Get An Overall, Comprehensive Screening?

Bergen County and the Tri-State Area

We also offer a complete vascular screening study which is an exam of the neck, abdomen, and legs. Screenings are simple tools used to detect possible blood flow issues that can result in the inability to perform simple daily tasks such as walking to the mailbox, climbing a set of stairs, or just digesting breakfast. Ideal candidates for a screening exam include patients with diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, high triglycerides, obesity, smoking or history of smoking, family history, known vascular disease, and the natural aging process.
