You Don't Have To Settle For Pain and Discomfort in Your Legs

Wondering how to get rid of varicose and spider veins? There are many vein treatment options available.

What happens first? Most patients begin with conservative treatment. This form of treatment targets lifestyle factors that contribute to vein disease, including diet and exercise. Patients are also encouraged to wear compression stockings.

Conservative treatment focuses on reducing symptoms, including pain and swelling, but is not an effective way to treat the underlying issue. Next Steps. Usually, this involves minimally invasive treatments. Often required to restore proper circulation are endovenous laser ablation, ambulatory phlebectomy, and sclerotherapy.

What Is Conservative Vein Treatment?

Treatment Options

Conservative treatment is commonly prescribed as an initial approach to treating vein disease. This form of treatment focuses on lifestyle changes that help reduce symptoms, including pain and swelling. Patients are encouraged to manage their weight and maintain a healthy BMI. Being overweight can add extra pressure on your veins making it harder for them to function properly. Regular exercise is essential for healthy vein function. With movement, the calf muscles pump blood back up toward the heart against gravity, helping to prevent any blood from pooling in the legs. Patients are also encouraged to wear compression stockings. Compression stockings work by exerting gradient pressure on your veins to encourage blood to flow upward in the leg.

In addition, taking dietary supplements containing Bioflavonoids have been found to support normal venous function. While these steps are effective at managing symptoms, they do not address the underlying issue, which is poorly functioning veins that allow blood to pool rather than transporting it back to the heart. As such, conservative treatments are often a temporary measure, though it is very helpful for patients who are unable to undergo minimally invasive treatments. At Chuback Vein Center there are a number of safe, effective, and virtually pain-free treatments available to address vein issues before complications occur. All of our treatments are performed in the office under local anesthesia (if required). All procedures are performed within 45-60 minutes so patients can return to their normal daily activities. All patients are encouraged to be active after their treatment so there is no downtime while treatments are being performed. Patients can expect to have some bruising and tenderness in the area being treated, which will resolve within 5-10 days. Most patients will take Tylenol or Ibuprofen to help manage any discomfort they might have. All treatments offered are extremely well tolerated and patients can enjoy looking and feeling better.

What Is Endovenous Laser Treatment (EVLT)?

Bergen County Vein Treatments

Endovenous Laser Treatment (EVLT) is one of the newest forms of minimally invasive treatments for varicose veins and other forms of vein disease. EVLT offers patients a treatment with extremely high success rates while necessitating less anesthesia than many other traditional treatments. This treatment utilizes ultrasound to create a map of the abnormal vein. Once this vein is identified, a very small catheter bearing a thin laser is inserted into the vein. The laser generates a controlled amount of heat, sealing the vein and allowing blood to be redirected to healthier veins in the area. This redirection of blood flow will help to decrease swelling and any associated symptoms, such as pain and heaviness.

What Is Ambulatory Microphlebectomy?

This treatment is a minimally invasive surgical technique used to treat bulging varicose veins. This is a simple in-office procedure that removes large varicose veins through tiny incisions with a small hook-like medical tool. Because the incisions are so small, patients will not experience any scarring. Once that large varicosity is removed, patients look and feel better immediately because blood is no longer able to pool in the diseased vein.

What Is Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy?

popular form of treatment

This is a popular form of treatment and is most effective when used to treat smaller, more tortuous veins that are closer to the skin surface.

The procedure utilizes ultrasound guidance to inject a pharmaceutical liquid or foam solution into the vein. This medication causes the vessel’s walls to swell, adhere, and seal shut. Blood is automatically redirected to healthier vessels, and the treated vein gradually gets reabsorbed by the body. Again, this redirection of blood flow to the healthy veins in the area helps to alleviate the symptoms of chronic venous insufficiency.

What Is Visual Sclerotherapy for Spider Veins?

This procedure is well known for the treatment of small unsightly spider veins on the surface of the skin. The procedure involves injecting a pharmaceutical liquid solution into the vein, causing the vein wall to collapse and adhere shut.

The treated vein gradually gets reabsorbed by the body over a period of time which improves the overall appearance of the leg. By treating these smaller veins, patients often feel relief of the burning, itching pain that was causing so much of their discomfort. It is important to note that the majority of patients will require several sclerotherapy treatments for optimal results.
